We place a deliberate focus on educating the whole child: academically, socially, emotionally and physically. Our vehicle of teaching and learning, our values inspire us and inform our practices and personal relationships. Our rigorous and comprehensive curriculum is a window into our educational philosophy— teaching and learning is student-centered and we embed ongoing opportunities for personalized learning realizing it to be critical to progress, growth and developing a growth mindset. Students learn through experiential activities that support the development of intrinsic motivation allowing our scholars habitual opportunities to investigate, solve problems and responsibly and effectively challenge the world around them. We believe the purpose of education is to instill in others two important, yet paradoxical capacities: to thrive within the system, and to thrive outside the system. Through education, our focus is to build off of the successes of those who came before us and leave the world a better place for those who come after.
We realize that the elementary years continue to build on healthy child development with attachment, stress management and self-regulation skills and support the scholar’s learning habits and school readiness attributes of self-awareness, social awareness/relationship skils and executive functions. We value mindsets for school and for learning– developing a growth mindset, improving self-efficacy, establishing a sense of belonging and making school relevant and relatable.
English classroom instruction is delivered through the homeroom teacher and co-teacher model including subjects such as reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning. Specialist teachers deliver content through Spanish language arts, Colombian social studies, music, technology integration, drama, art, physical education, values and library. Many units of study are interdisciplinary and teachers collaborate regularly to ensure students receive a well-rounded academic and social/emotional experience.
As we #learntogether, our curriculum is adjusted in result of ongoing teacher training, collaboration between faculty and leadership and in reflection of our community’s goals for academic rigor, 21st century learning and the social/emotional development of each student. We welcome change and make smart iterations to our practices upon reflection, refinement and regular feedback from all stakeholders.

In the Learning Center, we believe that all students deserve a quality education and opportunity to reach their individual potential. We know that some students will need support and specialized instruction to reach academic goals. Therefore, the Learning Center works with teachers and parents to determine, based on school performance, whether or not students should be recommended for an external evaluation in order to receive Learning Center Services.
If an external professional determines that a student needs additional support, the student will enter into the Learning Center.
Using the information provided by the external professional, the Learning Center Specialists will work with students inside and outside of the mainstream classroom to reach academic goals established by the school and classroom teacher.
