At COJOWA Elementary we pride ourselves in educating the whole child, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. We believe that values are at the core of our education and relationships, the vehicle through which we learn. Our curriculum is a window into our educational philosophy, which is student-centered, embedding ongoing opportunities for personalized learning and centered around a growth mindset. Students learn through experiential activities that instill an intrinsic motivation to investigate, problem-solve and take action for a better tomorrow.
We realize that the elementary years are formative in establishing a child’s learning habits as well as developing a strong sense of character, taking ownership over the wellbeing of one’s self and others. We value each students’ personal identity and interests, ensuring that all students are challenged to make great gains in all areas of learning.
Classroom instruction is delivered through the homeroom teacher model where core subjects such as reading, writing, math, science and social studies are taught in English and specialist teachers deliver content in Spanish language arts, Colombian social studies,
music, technology integration, drama, art, physical education, values and library. Many units of study are interdisciplinary and teachers collaborate regularly to ensure students receive a well-rounded academic and social/emotional experience.
Our curriculum is the result of ongoing teacher training, collaboration between faculty and leadership and as a result, it reflects our community’s goals for academic rigor, 21st century learning and the social/emotional development of each student. It is continuous work that builds upon reflection, refinement and regular feedback from all stakeholders.

In the Learning Center, we believe that all students, especially those with learning disabilities and difficulties, deserve a quality education and opportunity to reach their individual potential. We know that students who present learning disabilities and difficulties will need support and specialized instruction to reach academic goals. We work HARD to create a positive LEARNING ENVIRONMENT where students develop skills to support their learning difficulties, become independent and achieve success in academics and their personal lives.
